Welcome to the homepage of the

Benedictine Mission

in Mandeni, kwaZulu/Natal, South Africa

Missionary Benedictine presence in Mandeni was re-established in 1990, when Fr. Gérard T. Lagleder O.S.B., a Missionary Benedictine Monk of St. Ottilien Archabbey / Germany, who is assigned for mission work to Inkamana Abbey in South Africa, was commissioned to do pastoral work in the Diocese of Eshowe as the parish priest of Mangete and Mandeni. Both parishes have meanwhile been taken over by Rev. Father Sipho Titus Gamede, an indigenous diocesan priest.

Fr. Gérard works now on a special assignment in Mandeni as the president of the Brotherhood of Blessed Gérard and he is the vice-dean of Eshowe Deanery.

There was a Missionary Benedictine presence before in Mangete (1953 - 1976) and Mandeni (1953 - 1963).
(See the parish history of Emoyeni, Mangete and Mandeni.)
